  • More Than Just a Piece of Paper

    TJ came into the Adult Education program with a 7th-grade education level and a determination to change his future. After months of hard work and near-perfect attendance, he earned his high school equivalency diploma. “Some think this is just a piece of paper. For me, it’s the start of something more,” TJ shared. 

    Now he’s pursuing digital media training and plans to join the National Guard, proving that opportunity grows when determination meets support.

Punxsy REACT Food Drive

During the Fall of 2025, amid ongoing state and federal budget impasses that have left many non-profits struggling, one local group stepped up to make a difference. Punxsutawney REACT, widely recognized for assisting law enforcement and emergency responders with traffic control and public safety, extended its mission of service by organizing a food drive to benefit survivors of domestic violence at Community Action, Inc.’s Crossroads Shelters in Jefferson and Clearfield Counties.

“During a recent meeting, we discussed Domestic Violence Awareness Month and learned about the urgent need for resources to keep shelters open,” said Charles Hoeh, Punxsutawney REACT President. “Although we couldn’t launch a project in October, we knew we had to help. A November food drive was something we could do to support survivors and the shelters.”

Community Action, Inc. CEO Misty Fleming expressed deep gratitude for the effort: “We are incredibly thankful for the generosity shown during the food drive by Punxsutawney REACT and the community. These donations will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families seeking safety and healing at our Crossroads Domestic Violence Shelters. In times of hardship, it is the strength and kindness of our community that lights the path forward.”

"Like many local non-profits, Community Action has navigated significant challenges during the budget impasse, working creatively to maintain services with limited resources. Thanks to Punxsutawney REACT and the return of funding, our shelters can continue supporting neighbors in need without interruption," added Ms. Fleming.
