Local Volunteers Power Community Action Inc.’s Successful VITA Tax Season

Community Action, Inc. proudly recognizes the impact and commitment of its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) team following the successful close of the 2025 tax season on April 15, 2026. This year, 33 dedicated volunteers played a vital role in delivering free, high-quality tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families across Clarion and Jefferson Counties.

The VITA program, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and administered locally by Community Action, Inc., provides no-cost tax help to individuals who need assistance preparing and filing their federal, state, and local tax returns. Volunteers undergo IRS certification and training to ensure accurate and secure tax filing services. Volunteers contributed their time and expertise in several critical roles, including appointment scheduling and logistics; intake and interview assistance; and tax return preparation with secure e-filing.

VITA’s 2025 tax season generated significant financial benefits for local residents. In Clarion County, 501 tax returns were completed with $680,649 in total refunds secured, including $98,305 in Earned Income Credits (EIC). In Jefferson County, 1,000 tax returns were completed with $1,009,176 in total refunds secured, including $98,476 in Earned Income Credits (EIC).

These results highlight the program’s role in bringing over $1.68 million in refunds back into local communities, supporting household stability and economic activity.

“Each year, our volunteers are the backbone of the VITA program,” stated Misty Fleming, CEO of Community Action, Inc. “Their dedication ensures that individuals and families can confidently file their taxes while maximizing refunds and credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to serving our communities.” The VITA program continues to provide more than free tax preparation; it helps households avoid costly fees, access critical tax credits, and build greater financial security.

Community Action, Inc. extends sincere appreciation to all 33 volunteers whose generosity and hard work made the 2025 VITA season a success. Their efforts reflect a shared commitment to strengthening communities throughout Clarion and Jefferson Counties.
