New Choices Career Development Program Clarion County Graduation
Community Action, Inc.’s New Choices Career Development Program celebrated the graduation of nine students from their Clarion County class on Thursday, January 28, 2010.

Guest speaker, Clarion County Commissioner David Cyphert’s message to the students was to always believe in yourself and have the confidence to succeed. He presented each student with a Certificate of Achievement for completing the four-week career development course.

The New Choices Career Development Program is FREE and designed to assist individuals take the next step toward obtaining a rewarding career. Students fully engage in planning and achieving their professional, educational and personal goals. Graduate Mary Geist commented, “My confidence now is unbelievable. This class has helped me to know the different choices I have in life, the different careers I can choose, and how to go about getting there, which I didn’t know how to do before.”

The New Choices Career Development Program curriculum includes: career assessments; interviewing skills; computer skills; career counseling; self-esteem building; communication skills; time & stress management skills; leadership skills; tours of local training/educational providers; and job shadowing experiences. The New Choices Career Development Program continues to assist students after they graduate; currently three graduates are being assisted with job shadowing experiences.

Community Action, Inc. is offering New Choices Career Development Classes at its Clarion Office located at 30A South Sheridan Road, Clarion. Classes are scheduled March 1st - 25th and May 3rd - 27th, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. An evening class is also available March 1st to April 1st, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Contact Community Action, Inc. at (814) 226-4785 or toll free at 1-800-997-7661 for additional information or to register for class. While attending classes, students may receive financial assistance with childcare and travel reimbursement.
