Community Action, Inc. Names Jefferson County
Senior Corps-RSVP February Volunteers of the Month |
|

Community Action, Inc. announced Eston “Shorty” and Tressa “Terry” Merritts of Punxsutawney were selected to be Jefferson County Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteers of the Month for February. Terry has been a member of the Senior Corps-RSVP since December 2001 volunteering for Community Action, Inc.'s Pen Pal Project and Christmas programs. Shorty has been a member since July 2002 also volunteering for Community Action, Inc.'s Pen Pal Project. Shorty also calls bingo weekly at Mahoning Towers in Punxsutawney and is a Hunter Safety Educator for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. When asked why they volunteer Shorty stated, "Whenever the need arises we just jump in and do it. People just need help with stuff and we have the time.” Terry stated, “It’s very rewarding to give a little bit of free time that makes such a difference in someone else’s life.” In reference to the work Terry does for Community Action, Inc. she said, “I love shopping and trying to find a good bargain.” Terry is retired from Community Action, Inc. and Shorty is retired from the Pennsylvania State Police. The Merritts are the proud parents of two children and three grandchildren with whom they love spending time. When they are not volunteering Terry enjoys crocheting while Shorty enjoys hunting and fishing. Shorty is a member of the Perry Township Sportsman’s Club, Patton Sportsman’s Club, Fraternal Order of Police, and is a Certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church. The Merritts are active members of Grace United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney. Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP is very proud to have the Merritts as members. They depict the true spirit of volunteering and are dedicated to making a difference in people's lives.
