Junior Achievement Initiated in Jefferson County
Community Action, Inc. and Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania (JA) have partnered to initiate Junior Achievement in Jefferson County.
Junior Achievement is the world’s oldest and largest economic education institution, with chapters in 175 U.S. cities and 110 foreign countries.
JA was brought to Pennsylvania in 1939, and today reaches over 250,000 students in 300 school districts. JA’s worldwide purpose is to inspire and prepare
young people to succeed in a global economy. As stated in a recent letter of support from Mr. Peter Varischetti, “a Junior Achievement program in our
county will be a true investment in our communities by inspiring and preparing our young people to succeed in a global economy.”
The success of this Jefferson County initiative depends on community leaders participating on a local Junior Achievement Leadership Board, volunteering
in local classrooms and raising resources for curriculum expenses. Our hope is you will share your expertise and help to mentor future generations who
will one day be our community leaders. National studies prove that students who participate in JA better understand the link between education, the workplace
and economic development.
If you want to be involved in the development of future community leaders in Jefferson County, please contact Greg Sands at gsands@jccap.org or by calling (814) 938-3302 x250.
This project is financed in part with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by a grant from the federal Department of Health & Human Services, under the administration of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, Department of Community & Economic Development.
