Clarion County Senior Corps-RSVP November Volunteer Station of the Month

Community Action, Inc. announced the Department of Veteran Affairs Clarion County Community Based Outreach Clinic (VA CBOC) was selected to be the Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer Station of the Month for November. The Clinic has been a Senior Corps-RSVP Station since April 2017. Kelly Hartzfeld, Volunteer Coordinator and Social Worker has been with the Clarion VA CBOC since the grand opening in September 2015. Kelly stated, "We are always looking for volunteers to do a variety of tasks at the VA CBOC. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and welcome veterans to stop in and see what services are available. During normal business hours on Friday, November 3, 2017, we are a holding a Veteran Appreciation to honor all veterans", Kelly added. The VA CBOC relocated from Foxburg to 56 Clarion Plaza, Suite 115, Clarion, PA to give Clarion County Veterans easier access to healthcare and other services. Now, in conjunction with the Disabled American Veterans and the VA Butler Health Care Center, the Clinic is offering transportation for veterans in Clarion County who require specialized services through the VA in Butler or Pittsburgh. Those needing transportation may call 800-362-8262, ext. 5010. Senior Corps-RSVP recognized Bob Ciancio for his volunteer service with RSVP. Bob has been a greeter at the VA CBOC since November 2016 and a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) preparer/greeter at Community Action, Inc. since January 2013. Bob is an U.S. Army Veteran and stated,"I enjoy spending time talking to other veterans and hearing their different stories. I have been blessed with good health and feel everyone should volunteer, if able." Bob is active on multiple boards of directors in Clarion area such as, Clarion Federal Credit Union, Charitable Deeds, and the Clarion County Republican Party. He is also a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Council. In his limited spare time, Bob enjoys Senior League golfing with his friends. The VA CBOC has many volunteer opportunities available to those looking to assist veterans. Volunteers help with clerical work, making appointment reminder calls, greeting veterans upon arrival, and transporting veterans. Veterans, their families, or anyone with a passion to serve those who have served our Country may contact the Voluntary Service Office at the VA Butler Health Care Center 800-362-8262 ext. 6957 to learn about volunteer requirements.
