Do you have a desire to help friends, family, and neighbors? If so, we need you! Community Action, Inc. is seeking volunteers to become tax preparers for the 2012 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. No previous experience in tax preparation or finance is required, only a strong motivation to help people in your community.
Volunteers will locally attend a two-day Internal Revenue Service (IRS) training session and attain certification as qualified tax preparers. The two-day IRS training will be held Thursday, January 24 and Friday, January 25, 2013 at Community Action, Inc., 200 East Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney. Online training will also be available.
Upon certification, volunteers will help working families (free of charge) in Clarion and Jefferson Counties prepare their federal and state income tax returns and apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit. All returns will be completed and filed electronically and the taxpayer can expect their refunds in as few as ten days.
